These are a nice (less expensive) alternative to the Vibram Five Fingers (VFF's). I own both and personally prefer the Fila's, due mainly to the fit (pinky and it's bigger brother share a pocket) and slightly thicker sole. They are much easier for me to slip on than the VFF's and, for whatever reason, fit my feat absolutely perfectly. I usually wear a men's 8.5 and after trying on the 9 and 8 sizes I went with the smaller 8. Honestly it's like they were custom made to fit my feet. I bummed around the house in them for a few days and then threw caution to the wind and wore them on a 5.7 mile hike in the Pisgah National Forest. The hike had some relatively steep elevation gains and then some mud/wet areas as well. I figured I would regret wearing the fila's on such an ambitious first outing but they felt great! I didn't feel the slightest discomfort while hiking and didn't mind walking through the wet areas as I was pretty much wearing water-shoes anyway. The only downside was that I had to stop twice in 4 hours to remove the shoes and knock out small bits of leaf and twigs which had worked their way into the ankle opening. This is not a big deal to me personally.
Bottom line: I would highly recommend these shoes to anyone looking for the barefoot/zero heal to toe drop experience. I would not hesitate to run in these either. I don't know how well they will hold up, but time will tell.
